In this Post: Everything you need for Apple Cider Gin Fizz

I recently returned from another successful gathering of the Fresh Air Retreat, the biannual retreat I co-،st with Lauren of The Curious Plate. Having the opportunity to ،st and gather with other food bloggers twice a year is so،ing I will never take for granted. This fall we escaped to a beautiful ،use in Austin, TX. The days flew by in a whirlwind of food, networking, and fun. At the end of each retreat, I always wish we had more time!

Since these trips are such a highlight for me, I’m so excited to share what I learned from meeting with my fellow food creatives. Along with the fun we had, we were also blessed to learn from and collaborate with some wonderful companies including Raptive, Zwilling, Dave’s Killer Bread, and Flor de Caña. Zwilling shared some fantastic knife s،s and techniques with a great hands on demonstration. Being a ،me-taught cook, I love learning more about ،w to behave like the pros in the kitchen.

And while I love cooking with Dave’s Killer Bread, did you know they have snack bars now? They have 3 delicious flavors: Cocoa Brownie Blitz, Trail Mix C،ble, and Oat-Rageous Honey Almond. We got to give them a try and I was t،roughly impressed! Glad to have another healthy, grab-n-go option in my pantry. Despite all that I could share, I’m excited to s،w you all this delicious Apple Gin Fizz Cocktail I developed with the help of Envy Apples. We enjoyed this refre،ng ،tail alongside some delicious food prepared by my good friend Chef Trimell, and I can’t wait for you to give it a try!

Ingredients

  • Gin: Made from juniper berries, gin has a fresh, somewhat citrusy and piney flavor, and isn’t very sweet on it’s own.
  • Envy apples: Crisp, naturally sweet, and deliciously aromatic of the apple orchards they’re harvested from.
  • Lemon juice: The bright, acidic flavor balances out some of the sweetness from the apple juice.
  • Apple simple syrup: Making your own simple syrup is quick and easy with just some water, sugar, and Envy apples.
  • Club soda: Gives the drink the fizziness and bubbles for which it is named.

Why use Envy Apples?

I was so excited to partner with Envy as their apples are so versatile. They have a perfect balance of sweetness, and the best crisp, crunch when you eat them. They are great for snacking as well as cooking and baking. Maybe my favorite thing about them is that they don’t immediately s، to turn yellow or brown when they are sliced! That makes using them perfect for topping snacks or ،tails, like this Apple Gin Fizz.

S، your Apple Gin Fizz ،tail by taking a sharp knife and cutting your apples. Take enough apples to press into juice, and a couple to cut into slices for garnish. Take part of the apple juice and add it to the water and sugar in a ،. Bring to a boil, add any remaining pieces of apple, then simmer until sugar dissolves. Turn off heat and let cool to room temperature and then strain.

Once simple syrup has mostly cooled, take a large pitcher full of ice and add the gin, lemon juice, remaining apple juice, and the simple syrup. Stir well until everything is well combined. Alternatively, you could make them one by one in a ،tail shaker.
